Pantyhose Distaff Pouch Tutorial

The first thing you need is a pair of pantyhose or a nylon trouser sock/knee-high, preferably ones that are no longer wearable due to some mishap. (Mine got thrown in the wash unwittingly and came out pulled all over).

Cut off part of a leg into a tube the length of your forearm. Tie a knot at one end and clip slit just big enough to pass your hand through about 2/3 of the way down the tube. (This slit will turn into a hole and grow to what appears in this picture – no need to actually remove any fabric. Just one cut.)

Congratulations! You have made your pouch. See, wasn’t that easy? Now here’s how you load it:

Fold up your (predrafted if you like) fiber into a loose stack. Rolling it into a ball will cause frustration when the ball refuses to turn inside the pouch, so a stack is probably best.

Turn the pouch inside out and roll it over one hand. Grab the stack of fiber (from the bottom) with the hand that is inside the pouch like so:

Now using your other hand, turn the pouch back right-side-out over top of the fiber, spreading the stack out evenly inside the bottom of the pouch and leaving a tail of the fiber sticking out the top.

Almost done! Now just stick your hand through the slit and out the top of the pouch:

Grab the tail of fiber with your hand and pull the nylon around your hand back over the rest of the pouch. This will keep it snug to your arm and allow you easy access to the stack of fiber inside so you can pull from it as needed!
