I’ve been doing a whole lot of dyeing lately; I am moving on July 4, and I have to get rid of my washing machine and dryer before the move. That means I won’t have them in my new apartment, which doesn’t have a hook-up for them. This will make my dyeing a little more [...]

…in announcing why I have been absent for two weeks!
I am moving from North Carolina to New York this year so that I can attend law school. Yes, they have law schools in North Carolina, but not the one I wanted to go to. So I am moving. Moving 12 hours away from your current [...]

Last night I had a dream. This dream involved many things, but the part I remember the most vividly is picking up a half-finished lace wrap that I was working on and showing it to my mother. Somehow the lace looked perfectly blocked already, despite the project being unfinished. She ooh’d and aah’d over it [...]

Okay okay okay, I KNOW I still have to cast off, but the first sock is essentially done. Just a little more ribbing on the turn, then a CO. I’m debating making an I-cord with pompoms for the top to make it even more Jayne-y.
I never realized how incredibly warm handknit wool socks could be. [...]

It’s spring and everything is blooming outside. It’s the perfect time to make some bright spring colors! I’m not a huge fan of pastels, so my colors are pretty bright. I’ve got some gorgeous purple that I’ll be adding soon, too.
On the left we have Nuclear Bunny, a colorway of bright greens on a mix [...]

Well, it’s happened again. I have been overenthusiastic about my sock-knitting, and I have inured a tendon in my hand. Seeing as I went through almost this same injury about a month ago, I really should have learned better by now. The fact that my hands were feeling puffy and swollen in the mornings after [...]

It’s very liberating to be able to play with a project and not have it matter if things aren’t mapped out perfectly. The sock recipe I’m using allows me a lot of flexibility! I got bored doing ribbing, so I added in some cables. What I intended to be a peach stripe came out bright [...]

This weekend I finished reading Knitting: a novel by Anne Bartlett. The novel captivated me at the very beginning with its tactile descriptions of knitting. It made me want to try knitting lace (which I have) and to knit for myself. The book is a great story, and a fairly short read. I picked up [...]

I dislike knitting with needles that are longer than the project I’m working on is wide. The ends stick out and bump into things. It’s especially bad if I’m sitting in a chair with arms…every stitch takes extra effort.
Most of my straight needles are quite long. This, of course, is great when knitting something wide. [...]

This weekend was very productive! I got in the mood to do some spring colors on Friday night. I overdyed some fluffy lime angora/wool into a variegated mix of spring greens and then divided a batch of lovely white lace weight silk/cashmere blend in half and did two skeins of salmon pink with burgundy flecks [...]
