Spring Thrifting

Posted on April 13th, 2009, by Nuri

It’s getting warm out, which means people are cleaning out their closets! The thrift stores are just booming with sweaters right about now. I really shouldn’t be looking for more because of my diet, but I just hate the thought of all that lovely yarn going to waste. I want to see what everyone is finding!!

I’m working on unraveling a bright violet 100% cashmere sweater right now. The plies keep snapping…cashmere is really soft, but it’s also pretty fragile. Luckily the wet-felted joins are practically invisible, so it doesn’t hurt the consistency of the yarn. I usually ply at least 2 strands together after unraveling it to make it a little stronger before use or sale. Really pretty color, but very frustrating to work with. After this I think I’ll go with a nice, bulky, strong sweater that will unravel quickly.
